Sacramental Preparation **Not on age or grade, readiness is determined if the person expresses a desire to celebrate the sacrament, and participates in the worship life of the community on a weekly basis (attends Mass weekly), and takes part regularly in Faith Formation classes and activities (at least one year preceding sacrament preparation), and has time to attend rites, activities, sessions required for preparation, and if the family can make the commitment to time needed to prayerfully and reflectively prepare. RCIA: RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITATION OF ADULTS & CHILDREN This is a process by which adults and older children are received into the church. Possible candidates for this process are: Unbaptized adults or older children who may wish to learn more about the Catholic faith. Baptized Christians who would like to learn more about and possibly join the Catholic Church. Baptized Catholics who would like to prepare for Confirmation and Eucharist.
Sacrament of Baptism To request Baptism for your child, please call the office at least six months before birth or adoption. An interview is conducted by the pastor/pastoral administrator. Group sessions are held as needed. Preparation time gives time for parents to reflect on their own faith and church connection. For older children, please see the section on RCIA.
Sacrament of First Eucharist This Sacrament of Initation is requested by parents when they feel their child has reached maturity to distinguish between bread and wine and the mystery of the Body and Blood of Jesus as well as their child's desire to receive the Sacrament. There are three preparation gatherings for both parent and child. These sessions are in addition to our regular Faith Formation classes. Children must be enrolled and attending Faith Formation for one year prior to the reception of the Sacrament or attending Catholic School.
Sacrament of Confirmation This Sacrament of Initiation deepens baptismal grace for those receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit. It celebrates the commitment to lead a life of discipleship, active in service to others and in growth in the Catholic faith as a lifelong process. The preparation requires enrollment in New Horizons as well as attending our senior high retreat. Candidates gather for four sessions on what it means to be a Catholic young adult. Weekly participation at Mass is presumed.
Sacrament of First Penance Preparation is in the Fall beginning with three gatherings that include both parent and child. By illustration from everyday life situations, children are called to make good decisions based on the Commandments. When penance is needed to mend a broken relationship with others and God, the process of penance is developed according to the child's level of understanding. This Sacrament is celebrated traditionally prior to or in early Advent.
Sacrament of Matrimony Preparing for marriage is a very serious matter. There are parish and diocesan requirements to be fulfilled so couples should contact the pastor/pastoral administrator sox to nine months ahead of the wedding. No date may be set before the initial interview.
Annointing of the Sick Anytime by appointment and usually on the first Wednesday of each month after the 8:30am Mass.
